TextCompare ("we," "our," or "the Service") is a free, browser-based text and diff comparison tool operated by GetInfoToYou. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
The most important thing to know: your text is never collected, stored, or transmitted. All comparison happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. We have no technical capability to read the content you compare.
Information We Collect
We collect only the minimum information necessary to understand how the Service is used and to maintain its operation.
Anonymous usage analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymized data about how visitors use TextCompare. This includes:
- Pages visited and features used (e.g., diff mode selected)
- General geographic region (country or city — not precise location)
- Device type, operating system, and browser version
- Session duration and navigation paths
- Referral source (how you arrived at TextCompare)
IP addresses are anonymized before being processed by Google Analytics. We do not use User-ID features or link analytics data to any personal identity.
Browser localStorage
We store lightweight user preferences (such as your preferred diff mode or display settings) in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to us or any third party.
What we do NOT collect
- The text or content you paste into the comparison tool
- Your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information
- Account credentials (there are no accounts)
- Payment information (the Service is free)
- Sensitive categories of personal data
How We Use Information
The anonymous analytics data we collect is used exclusively to:
- Understand which features are most useful to visitors
- Diagnose performance issues and improve the Service
- Track aggregate traffic trends to plan infrastructure
- Comply with legal obligations if required
We do not sell, rent, or share analytics data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Cookies
TextCompare uses a minimal set of cookies, all placed by Google Analytics. These include:

Third-Party Services
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to collect anonymous usage statistics. Google may process data on servers located in the United States or other countries. Google's use of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Google Fonts
TextCompare loads fonts (Bricolage Grotesque and JetBrains Mono) from the Google Fonts CDN. This request may expose your IP address to Google's servers. We use font-display: swap and rel="preload" to minimize latency. Google's use of Font data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
Data Retention
Because we do not collect personal data, there is no personal data to retain or delete. Google Analytics retains anonymized aggregate data according to its own retention schedules (typically 14 months for event data). localStorage data is retained on your own device until you clear it through your browser settings.
Children's Privacy
TextCompare is not directed to children under 13 years of age (or under 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through our Service, please contact us and we will promptly address the matter.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights under applicable privacy laws, including the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Because we collect no personal data, most of these rights are satisfied by default.
